Rene visited the turbomachinery lab of Tsinghua University for academic communication
On the afternoon of November 13, 2019, Rene Van den Braembussche, honorary professor of von Karman Institute, visited the turbomachinery lab of Tsinghua University, and had an excellent academic communication with members from the lab.
Professor Rene Van den Braembussche is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), associate editor of ASME Journal of Turbomachinery, an International Committee member of Japanese Gas Turbine Society, a member of the KVIV (Royal Flemish Engineering Association). His main research interests include: experimental and numerical study of turbomachinery aerothermodynamics, compressor and turbine design by means of inverse methods and optimization techniques, hydrodynamic forces and stability of the flow in radial compressors and pumps (rotating stall and surge, flow induced vibrations), and engineering education.
In this communication meeting, laboratory teacher Wang Baotong, postdoctoral Sun Zhenzhong, researchers Yang Heli, Ding Chuang, Wen MengYang, doctoral candidates Lin Yun, Wei Jie, Wang Junying, master candidates Zou Wangzhi, Marinus (international student), Zhang Wen-chao, Niu Zitian, respectively introduced their research directions. Then, professor Rene introduced his research entitled \"Centrifugal Compressor Design by Evolutionary Methods\". In the presentation, different optimization methods were introduced and compared, based on which a multi-objective and multi-disciplinary design optimization was implemented. The doctoral student Wang Junying also gave a presentation about her research on \"Geometrical Uncertainty Quantification in Gas Turbine\". Some problems about UQ were discussed and Prof Rene shared his valuable opinions and suggestions.
