Advanced Training Course for Compressor Design
Introduction of Prof. Michael Casey
Prof. Michael Casey, Ph.D of Oxford University and post doctor of Cambridge University, is a world famous turbomachinery specialist with 40 years' experience on the design and teaching of turbomachines, and has been the manager of compressor design in Sulzer Turbo, Sulzer Innotec and Rolls Royce for very long time. When he was in Sulzer Turbo and Sulzer Innotec, he was the head of radial compressor aerodynamic development and the head of aerodynamic development, and the manager of Sulzer fluid dynamics laboratory. When he was in Rolls-Royce, he was the chief compressor aerodynamic specialist and the chief of compressor technology research and methods. During these time, he was in charge of many compressors’ design and development and won many awards due to his outstanding contributions to the companies. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He has 150 technical publications, several of which have been awarded prizes and won best papers awards several times.
Introduction of the Course
This course focuses in the field of turbomachinery, which includes aeroengine, turbocharger, process compressor, ventilator, blower, fan and so on, and it contains not only the systematic theory for compressor design but also the 40 years’ experience for compressor design of Prof. Michael Casey.
The main contents in the 5 days' course are:
1. Fundamentals of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics of relevance to the aerodynamic design of compressors.
2. Analytic development of the 1D theory of turbomachinery of relevance to the understanding of compressors and the resulting consequences for their design.
3. Basic design information and performance data relevant to understanding of single stage radial and mixed flow compressors, multistage radial and axial compressors, and ventilators and fans.
4. Basics related to the operating characteristics, performance maps, stability and the control of compressors.
5. Elements of compressor development and testing
